Bobbie Jean Moore, a beloved, long-time resident of Bend, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on March 31, 2024. Bobbie fought bravely through her diagnoses of Alzheimer’s Disease, multiple myeloma, and lung cancer. Through it all, she never lost her deep love for and connection with her family and friends.
Bobbie was born on December 15, 1943 on a small farm in Idabel, Oklahoma to Howard and Wilma Moore. She lived there until the age of eight when her family made the long trek to Oregon, following the harvest and fruit picking, before finally settling in Madras. She graduated from Madras High School in 1961 and enrolled at Southern Oregon College that fall where she met the love of her life, Del Moore. Her first encounter with him at a university dance revealed her keen wit and sassy spirit when she simply asked him to “Say Certs†before dancing with him. He was hooked. They married a year later and made their home in Bend, where they raised their two daughters, Jackie and Debbie. Together Del and Bobbie co-founded Del’s Archery Den and ran this business together for over 25 years. Bobbie expertly managed the business for many of those years while Del taught school. She was a savvy business woman, and all who met her in the shop or on the range became instant friends, smitten by her infectious laughter and genuine kindness. She was an avid archer, winning many trophies and state championships as well as multiple gold medals at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. After selling the business in 1998, Bobbie and Del went on to open Obsidian Archery Distributors in 1998. Although she was still a strategic partner in the business, Bobbie found a new love in golfing and played in many women’s groups throughout Central Oregon. Again, her athleticism manifested in this new sport as she once more won gold medals at the Huntsman Senior World Games in golfing. She found time to dive into her creative side and began painting and crafting. She also enjoyed touring wineries and art galleries with family and friends. After both Bobbie and Del retired, they traveled and traversed the great Northwest, found hidden wine vineyards in British Columbia, and took in the icy landscapes of Alaska along with the blonde beaches of Hawaii. Wherever her journey took her, Bobbie never really met a stranger. More than one close friend would attest that Bobbie “adopted†them as sisters in a lifelong friendship. Her top priority and greatest joy in life was to spend as much time as possible with her family and friends.
To us, her family, Bobbie was simply our person, our rock, and our cheerleader. Regardless of the circumstance, she was always on our side offering unconditional love, support, and wisdom. To her husband, meeting Bobbie was a watershed moment. She transformed his life in an instant and continued to do so throughout their life together. To her daughters, Bobbie was their biggest fan; always present at events, big and small, never missing an opportunity to wrap her generous love around them to cheer them on. To her grandchildren, she was simply “Grandma B.â€
