On the heels of its inaugural production of “The Addams Family†last fall, Ponderosa Players will present its next MainStage musical, “Tuck Everlasting,†starting Wednesday, June 26. The youth production is based on Natalie Babbitt’s novel of the same name. The performances will be staged through June 29 at The Hayshed, an outdoor venue near Tumalo that Ponderosa Players directors and founders Grey Conant and Kisky Holwerda use advantageously to turn it into Treegap Wood.
“We are particularly excited for the unique environment that this venue offers,†Conant said. “Because ‘Tuck Everlasting’ takes place in a wood, we are able to weave the natural setting of The Hayshed into the setting of the story. From the moment they drive up, the audience will feel like they are transported to Treegap, New Hampshire, where they will be immersed in the beautiful, uplifting story of ‘Tuck Everlasting.’â€
Thus far, preparation for the production “has gone incredibly smoothly, and that’s thanks to the work ethic of our students and our production team,†Conant said. “It blows us away every day to see the time the cast is putting in outside of rehearsals which allows them to have so much growth and improvement within our rehearsal time.â€
The Hayshed is located at 65125 Hunnell Road, Bend. Performances take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, June 29, the last day includes a matinee show from 2 to 5 p.m. More information available at .
