With four of the six seats on the Bend City Council up for grabs this election cycle, the city opened the filing period Wednesday for candidates to ink a spot on the November ballot.
Council hopefuls have until Aug. 27 to complete three steps to become candidates, including gathering 150 signatures via a nomination petition approved by the city recorder's office. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, age 18 or older, registered voters and Bend residents for at least one year prior to Nov. 5.Â
Terms will expire at the end of 2024 for council members Megan Norris, Anthony Broadman, Megan Perkins and Barb Campbell. Only Broadman, who launched a campaign for state senate in September, has indicated an intent to vacate an expiring council seat. Campbell toldThe ÅÝֱܽ²¥Tuesday she has not decided if she will run for reelection, while Perkins confirmed her intent to run. Norris couldn’t be reached by press time.Â
Council members automatically sit on the Bend Urban Renewal Agency Board, the city’s Budget committee and participate in other local and regional committees. Those duties come with a $30,000 yearly stipend, health benefits and a $3,000 health stipend.Â
