The Bend Park & Recreation District has added lighting to half of the pickleball courts at Pine Nursery Park, allowing players to extend their play into the evening hours.
The courts that have lighting are the eight closest to the soccer fields. The lights can be manually turned on by players as needed before the park closes at 10 p.m., at which time the lights will automatically turn off.
Although the underground infrastructure for the lights was installed when the courts were opened in 2015, lights were not connected. The new feature was made possible through a donation by the Bend Pickleball Club and individual donors.
This how we lose our wonderful night sky in Bend. One pickle ball court/football field/baseball field/soccer pitch at a time. Wait until OSU finishes its planned complex!
