Noemi Arellano-Summer is schools, youth and families reporter at
the ÅÝֱܽ²¥. She previously reported on homelessness and the 2020
eviction moratorium with the Howard Center of Investigative
Journalism through Boston University. She was raised in Long Beach,
California, where she started her journalism career reporting for
her high school newspaper. In her free time, she can be found
meandering through a bookstore or writing short stories.
Oregon State University-Cascades will host a science pub discussing the role of Antarctic krill in the Southern Ocean and the challenges of conducting research in the Antarctic from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. June 20. The event will take place in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall.
Professor Kim Bernard is an ocean ecologist, biogeochemist and professor in Oregon State University's College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. She studies zooplankton ecologies with a focus on Antarctic krill.
Bernard has spent more than 49 months in Antarctica conducting fieldwork. She contributes her experience to continue efforts globally in marine science.
She will share how the Southern Ocean marine ecosystem depends on krill, which are small crustaceans, and how they are responding to climate change. Bernard will also tell stories from her research expeditions.
The event will include a light dinner and a no-host bar. , and the event costs $22. On-campus parking is free. The event is limited to 120 people.
