Pole Pedal Paddle participants place their watercraft in Riverbend Park on Friday in preparation for Saturday's event.

The 46th edition of the Pole Pedal Paddle, Bend’s celebration of the outdoor lifestyle beloved in Central Oregon, will arrive Saturday morning.

The multisport race, which starts on the slopes of Mount Bachelor and winds down to the Old Mill District, includes Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, biking, running and paddling, and tests the fitness of the region’s serious athletes. But it also champions the whimsy of area residents who compete in colorful costumes.
