Initiative Petition 17

The draft ballot title for Initiative Petition 17, which seeks to increase corporate taxes and establish a universal basic income in Oregon.

Oregon voters will likely decide in November whether to establish a historic universal basic income program that would give every state resident roughly $750 annually from increased corporate taxes.

Proponents of the concept say they likely have enough signatures to place it on the ballot this fall, and opponents are taking them seriously.

I thought the whole idea of a minimum income was to provide a floor for people of little or no means to get by. This is going to be given to everyone, even the very well off. It's a small amount (will not support anyone), encourages people in Oregon to have more children (given to everyone) and does not actually address a need. I believe in a basic income but this is not that...
