Central Oregon has classes for the mind and body this week as well as individuals interested in the region’s earth.
Take a hike along the Metolius River with a geophysicist. Hear from archaeologists and heritage specialists at the Oregon Archaeology Roadshow. Meditate with a group every Monday. And do yoga multiple times a week along the Deschutes River.
Geology Hike
The Deschutes Land Trust and retired geophysicist Derek Loeb will lead a hike through the land trust’s Metolius River Preserve to learn about the geology and hydrology of the Metolius River. The group will start at the river’s headwaters and then drive to Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery before ending with a 3- to 4-mile hike to the preserve. At each stop, Loeb will share how the region was formed by volcanic processes and faulting and how that relates to its special hydrology. If you can’t make it, check out the land trust’s website for more events like it this summer.
