The late-game heroics should not have been necessary in No. 5 Caldera’s 8-7 win over No. 12 Thurston in the first round of the Class 5A state softball playoffs. But why have a boring, ho-hum ending to a game when there is a chance to give the home crowd anxiety and have them sitting on the edge of their seats?

This year, when given the choice, the Wolfpack are going to choose the latter.
