The votes are in for The ÅÝֱܽ²¥â€™s Athletes of Week for April 22-27.
Maddie Carney, a freshman on the Caldera track and field team, and Mason Morical, a sophomore on the Caldera track and field team, were voted by ÅÝֱܽ²¥ readers as the boys and girls Athletes of the Week.
Carney was nominated by Caldera track coach Ned Myers after Carney broke a school record with a time of 4 minutes, 53.45 seconds in the 1,500 meters at the Jesuit Twilight Relays. Her time made her the only freshman to crack the top 10 in 5A in the 1,500.
Morical was nominated by Caldera track coach Ned Myers after Morical ran a personal best and set a school record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.79. Morical was also the third leg of Caldera’s winning 4x800 relay team at the Jesuit Twilight Relays on April 26.
New nominations will be announced on Tuesday. Local players are nominated for the honor by coaches and The ÅÝֱܽ²¥ sports staff.
